Learn MoreSalary: $135–$140 NZD per hour (circa $276,000 NZD / £122,500 GBP FTE)
Location: Waikanae, New Zealand
Job SummaryAn exciting opportunity for a British-trained General Practitioner to join a modern, well-established clinic in Waikanae on New Zealand’s stunning Kapiti Coast. This is an ideal role for a GP seeking a supportive team environment, strong earning potential, and genuine work-life balance in a beautiful coastal setting. With consistent patient demand and a growing waitlist, the incoming GP will step into a busy, rewarding role within a close-knit and forward-thinking practice.
The Practice
Established in 2018, the clinic serves approximately 4,000 enrolled patients and is currently seeking one additional GP (with potential for further recruitment in future years due to demand). The team consists of four GPs, two nurses, a nurse prescriber intern, and experienced administrative staff, operating with an open-door, highly collaborative culture.
Two UK-trained GPs are already part of the team and are happy to speak with prospective candidates about their experience relocating and working in New Zealand. Supervision capacity is available through two senior fellow GPs, with a structured two-week induction programme followed by weekly check-ins to support new arrivals adapting to local systems. The clinic offers a broad scope of practice, including minor surgery, and sees a mix of patients with a notable retirement demographic. Each GP typically consults around 24 patients per day with standard 15-minute appointments. A dedicated on-site telehealth team and virtual appointment systems are in place to enhance workflow and patient access. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00am–6:00pm, supporting an excellent work-life balance.

The clinic is conveniently located near the train station, with Wellington city accessible in approximately 45 minutes by train or car, providing easy access to urban amenities while enjoying a relaxed coastal setting. Nearby towns within a 40-minute drive offer additional living options, from coastal villages to more rural environments, making the area attractive for families and those seeking space and outdoor living.
