Family Physician – Kanata, Ottawa, Ontario

    Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established FHO/FHT clinic in Kanata, Ottawa, where a ready-built patient waitlist of 4,000-5,000 means you start with genuine demand from day one. Under the capitation-based FHO model, full-time billings reach CAD $450,000-$550,000 (approximately £245,000-£300,000) gross, with the highest billers exceeding CAD $600,000 (£325,000) – and a structured onboarding process that eases you in without expecting you to hit the ground running.

    The Practice

    • FHO/FHT model – income is primarily capitation-based, meaning you earn per rostered patient per year regardless of consultation frequency, with additional FFS billings on top; FHT status brings Ontario Ministry funding for allied health inside the clinic.
    • A waitlist of 4,000-5,000 unattached patients already in place, with Healthcare Connect referrals feeding the panel – no cold-start advertising, no hunting for patients.
    • On-site allied health team includes nurse practitioners, an in-house pharmacist, two social workers and a dietitian – all seeing clinic patients only, all available for same-day internal referrals.
    • Specialist interests actively welcomed – women’s health, joint injections, minor surgery and chronic disease management all have dedicated 30-minute appointment infrastructure already built in.
    • Owned and run by a Kanata local with transparent, physician-equal overhead terms – same flat rate for all, no exceptions, and a proven track record of supporting international physicians through LMIA and C10 processes.

    Benefits

    • Gross billings of CAD $450,000-$550,000 (£245,000-£300,000) for a full-time schedule, rising to CAD $600,000 (£325,000) for busier physicians – before overhead and tax.
    • Overhead of 685% (flat rate, applied equally to all physicians with no negotiation) – the model is transparent and consistent from day one.
    • Urgent care income on top – Monday to Friday 5-8pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am-3pm sessions available for GPs who want additional earnings; weekend rota averages once every seven to ten weeks.
    • LMIA and C10 visa support handled by the clinic via an experienced immigration specialist – a well-trodden process for international physicians.
    • Structured onboarding – meet-and-greet appointments for the first weeks, building to a mixed panel over 7-9 months; no physician is thrown in at the deep end.
    • One day per week working from home via telephone consultations – no five-day clinical week, and no expectation to see patients every day of the week.
    • Open-ended contract with a 6-month termination clause for either party – shorter notice periods considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Location Overview

Kanata sits on the western edge of Ottawa, with the South March Highlands Conservation Forest on its doorstep – 457 hectares of Canadian Shield trails, wetlands and rocky outcrops, offering 20 km of maintained routes for hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers year-round. The Walter Baker Park connects directly to the Trans-Canada Trail for cycling and walking, while the Canadian Tire Centre – home of the Ottawa Senators NHL team – is a short drive away for winter sport and live events. Ottawa itself is 20-30 minutes east, offering all the cultural institutions, restaurants and international transport of a national capital, while Kanata retains a genuinely family-friendly feel with strong schools, community parks and a multicultural population of nearly 100,000 people.
