Family Physician

Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to join an established, physician-owned practice as only its second doctor, with over 400 local families already on the waiting list. Full-time FFS earning potential currently runs to CAD $10,000-$15,000 per week (approx. £5,400-£8,100), in a small, close-knit team just 20 minutes from Calgary and within easy reach of the Rockies.

The Practice

• Independent, physician-owned practice on a straightforward FFS billing model, with the incoming GP joining as only the second doctor on site.
• Relaxed pace of work: appointments run 15 to 30 minutes, with no pressure to see patients on a rushed, five-minute basis.
• A dedicated minor procedures room is already fitted out with a steriliser and surgical instruments, ready for biopsies and similar work.
• Special interests in mental health, dermatology or women’s health are actively welcomed, with no resident specialists currently covering the area beyond a part-time paediatrician.
• Firm plans to expand the team to three or four physicians over the next one to two years, with room to shape the practice as it grows.

Benefits

• Earning potential on the current FFS schedule averages CAD $2,000-$3,000+ per clinical day (approx. £1,080-£1,620), based on 25 to 35 patients on standard appointments – equivalent to CAD $10,000-$15,000+ across a full-time week (approx. £5,400-£8,100).
• A 75/25 fee split in your favour, with scope to rise to 80% over time as the clinic grows.
• A built-in waiting list of over 400 local families already looking for a family physician, so there’s no need to build a panel from scratch.
• Flexible hours, with start and finish times agreed directly with you, from as early as 8am through to as late as 6pm.
• LMIA sponsorship is on the table for the right candidate, with the process and timeline confirmed at offer stage.
• Hands-on, personal onboarding directly from the practice owner and manager, rather than a corporate process.
• Extended 30-minute appointments for prenatal care and new patients, giving you the time to do the job properly.

Location Overview

Chestermere is built around its own lake, with boating, paddleboarding and a lakeside beach on your doorstep in summer, plus a pathway network that links into Calgary’s wider cycling and walking trails. Calgary itself is a 20-minute drive away for city amenities and a wider social scene, and the Rockies are within easy reach for weekend hiking or skiing, around an hour and a half by car. It’s a young, fast-growing and genuinely diverse community, with new neighbourhoods, parks and family amenities continuing to open as the population expands.

Skills and Requirements

• Qualified as a General Practitioner, with MRCGP or equivalent.
• Eligible for registration with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
• Comfortable in a small, close-knit team where collaboration matters more than hierarchy.
• Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in family medicine.
