Salaried GP | Just 26 patients per day | Weekly admin session | Light-touch Duty | Minimal visits

    Background

Hold your own patient list in a small practice where urgent slots are filled before anything reaches the duty doctor, and a buddy system means you never come back from leave to a mountain of work. Thursday afternoons are set aside for admin, learning and time with the wider team, and the practice is genuinely flexible on sessions for the right GP. It suits an established GP who values continuity and wants a real say in shaping a small team.

    Location

The practice is based in semi-rural north-west County Durham, near Consett, with the North Pennines close by. Gateshead is around 20 minutes away by car, with Durham and Newcastle city centre around 30 to 35 minutes. The role will suit GPs living in County Durham, Gateshead, west Newcastle or the Tyne Valley.

    The Practice

    • Small practice across two modern, purpose-built sites, with everyone working at both to keep the team connected
    • Same-day or next-day access, even for routine problems
    • A Nurse Practitioner team handles much of the acute and minor illness work
    • The admin team manages clinical correspondence and nurses handle long-term condition bloods, so you only see what needs your action
    • CQC Good with Outstanding

    Your Role

    • Up to 8 sessions available (will considering anything from 2 sessions upwards), with Thursday availability important and Fridays particularly welcome
    • On 6 or more sessions, Thursday afternoon is mostly admin and team learning, with the option to work from home (laptop provided)
    • Your own personal list, sized to your sessions, with buddy cover while you are away
    • Just 12 patients per session
    • Light-touch duty days, as urgent slots fill before the duty GP is involved
    • Scope to teach medical students and Nurse Practitioners, and to explore becoming a GP trainer
    • At least 12 months post-CCT experience required
    • Coil and implant skills would be a real bonus

    Salary and Benefits

    • NHS Pension
    • 6 weeks annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays
    • Indemnity covered
    • BMA equivalent contract

You must be qualified as a General Practitioner and registered with the GMC and UK performers list.
