How can we support GPs?

Supporting the General Practice industry in an ever-changing market: Advice for the GP

There is no mistaking, general practice is a tough place to work currently. With a huge uplift in patient demand and an increasing backlog, compounded by GPs retiring early and/or reducing their number of salaried sessions. With that being said, “In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity.” (Einstein).

Challenging times often lead to periods of reflection which in turn, leads to innovation. Practices are starting to do this now – looking at the patient journey, new operating systems and technology to help them to become more efficient whilst protecting the quality of patient care.

PCNs are also seeking to increase multi-disciplinary clinical teams which are fast becoming an essential part of general practice, (click here to learn more). Practices are working very differently from each other, diversifying and changing it up – fantastic! But how do you choose the right one?

How can we help? Here are 3 ways in which we can support you in finding the right practice for you:

  • We treat you as an individual

If you are a GP exploring your options, chances are you will have a unique set of circumstances, needs, and future ambitions compared to the next GP. You have had different experiences and will have come to like some ways of working and dislike others.

We take the time to learn who you are and what you are looking for before we start talking through relevant practices which fit you. Of the 5 practices appointing in your area, there may only be 1 or 2 worth putting your time into and we will be honest about why the other 3 are unlikely to work, so you can focus your time accordingly.

  • The devil is in the detail!

We work incredibly closely with our GPs and we also work incredibly closely with the practices we appoint for, and as such we have a huge amount of information to share with you about how they operate, the team dynamic, the breakdown of the sessions and all of the nitty-gritty to help you firstly decipher which of the practices you’d like to visit and also to encourage a meaningful conversation with ones you choose.

There are jobs out there. The challenge is selecting the right one for you. Menlo Park has transparency at the core and as such our approach is to demystify your job search – otherwise it is a bit of a lottery!

  • Realistic, up-to-the-minute advice

Chances are when you are looking for a job you are either newly qualified or you haven’t looked for a job for a while. You will therefore benefit from understanding the lay of the land before making any decisions. The market has changed rapidly since COVID, and what was the norm in 2021 is significantly out of date in September 2022.

We will let you know norms from a workload, session rate and contract perspective to ensure you are confident you have a fair deal. Our consultants work in tight regions, so their knowledge is local, current and detailed. We also ask the market what they are saying – the most recent example of this was our Salary Survey, which we run annually to stay up to speed on a National basis.

How can we help you?

If you are a GP who is looking to explore the options available, to make a good, long-term decision for yourself, do get in touch – we will be happy to help!
