Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to join a teaching practice that is never short of patients, where GPs average around AUD $15,000 (approx. £8,000) in weekly billings on a 70% split. With visa sponsorship, a DPA location and a guaranteed hourly rate while you settle in, it’s a confident first step into Australian general practice, 45 minutes from Melbourne.

The Practice

• Never short of patients – a bulk billing practice with full books from day one, weekends always booked out and a varied list of young families and older patients.
• A teaching practice hosting GP registrars and medical students, with supervisors already in place to support overseas-trained GPs through their first months.
• A close-knit, multicultural team who lunch together for case discussions, with regular doctors’ dinners and a Christmas party.
• A broad clinical mix including antenatal shared care, women’s health, skin cancer medicine and minor surgery, plus onsite physio, diabetes education and pathology.
• Established for over 13 years, with a second, larger clinic planned for 2027 and more GP roles to follow.

Benefits

• 70% fee split, with Medicare paying you directly.
• Real earning headroom, with the principal GP billing AUD $20,000-$23,000 (approx. £10,500-£12,000) per week.
• Guaranteed AUD $160 per hour (approx. £85) for your first months while you build your list.
• Visa sponsorship – the practice is set up to sponsor and onboard overseas GPs, with overseas-trained doctors already part of the team.
• DPA location, so you can access Medicare billing as an overseas-trained GP.
• Longer appointments to start – begin on 20 minutes and move to 15 once you are settled.
• Flexible start and finish times, with just one evening to 7pm each week.
• Well-paid weekend sessions for an easy way to add income on top of your weekday list.
• Paid teaching of around AUD $100 (approx. £55) per session supervising medical students.
• Settling-in support, with local school and area recommendations from the team.

Location Overview

Carrum Downs sits on Melbourne’s south-east fringe, around 45 minutes from the CBD, with Seaford and Frankston beaches on Port Phillip Bay just a short drive away. Peninsula Link puts the Mornington Peninsula’s wineries and Peninsula Hot Springs on your doorstep, while EastLink takes you to the forest walks and hill villages of the Dandenong Ranges. Closer to home, the Patterson River is popular for rowing, boating and riverside paths, and Seaford Wetlands and The Pines reserve offer bushland walking and birdwatching. It’s a family-focused community popular with young households, with easy links further afield, including a direct SmartBus to Melbourne Airport.

Skills and Requirements

• MRCGP or equivalent UK GP qualification
• AMC/RACGP registration, or eligibility to obtain it
• Able to commit to a full-time role
• Special interests welcome, with an interest in teaching a plus
