    Salaried GP | South Suffolk

    Background

This is a rare chance to join a practice that has deliberately held on to a genuine booked-appointment model, resisting the shift to total triage seen across much of the local area. A safe working limit, flexible appointment lengths and a hands-on partnership combine to create a sustainable working environment. With the list continuing to grow, this mid-sized practice in South Suffolk is looking for a Salaried GP to join a values-led team.

    Location

The practice is based in South Suffolk, in a semi-rural area close to the Essex border. The area has good transport links, with Bury St Edmunds and Colchester both around 30 minutes away, and Cambridge around an hour by car. New local housing developments continue to support the area’s growth, making this a stable, long-term base for a GP looking to put down roots.

    The Practice

    • GP Training Practice, with a GP Registrar already in post, offering genuine scope to get involved in teaching
    • A booked-appointment model, not total triage: a deliberate choice protected by the partners and increasingly rare locally
    • A safe working limit of 30 appointments a day, tracked since 2023: a real safety net, not just a headline figure
    • Flexible appointment length of 10 or 15 minutes, as long as workload is shared evenly across the team
    • A hands-on partnership team who continue to carry a full clinical caseload themselves alongside you
    • Rated Good by the CQC

    Your Role

    • 6 sessions a week as a Salaried GP, within the practice’s booked-appointment model
    • A pooled list, divided proportionally to your sessions, so there is no personal list pressure
    • Minimal home visiting: mainly covered by the nursing team, with GPs asked to do only 1 to 2 a week
    • Duty doctor roughly once a week, covering core hours with a slightly reduced appointment cap
    • Newly qualified GPs are welcome: the practice has direct, positive experience of supporting them into confident, established roles

You must be qualified as a General Practitioner and registered with the GMC and UK performers list.

    Salary and Benefits

    • Sessional rate of £11,750 per session
    • Professional fees covered
    • NHS Pension
    • 7 weeks’ annual leave (pro rata)
    • 1 week study leave (pro rata)
