    Job Summary

This is a rare opportunity to move to a salaried FTE role paying NZD $260,000 (approx. £115,000), seeing just 20 patients a day with two hours of protected admin built into every session. The practice is community trust-owned, meaning profits are reinvested straight back into patient care rather than paid out to shareholders. Relocation is made simple with a two-bedroom house provided on arrival, and world-class skiing at Queenstown and Wanaka is under two hours away.

    The Practice

    • Community trust-owned, so profits fund subsidised patient services such as ECGs and spirometry rather than shareholder returns
    • An established teaching site for Otago University medical students and GP registrars, with training built into the culture
    • A high nurse-to-GP ratio means routine workload is well delegated, freeing GPs to focus on varied clinical presentations
    • Special interests in emergency medicine, sexual health and women’s health are actively welcomed, with Prime emergency training available
    • Open to husband-and-wife GP pairs, with flexibility built around couples’ rosters

    Benefits

    • A salaried FTE package of NZD $260,000 (approx. £115,000), seeing around 20 patients a day with two hours of protected admin time
    • A two-bedroom relocation house is provided near the clinic, giving time to settle before house hunting
    • A separate cottage is available for GP couples needing coordinated time off together
    • Flexible sessions of up to 10 per week, with the choice of earlier starts, later finishes, weekends or evenings
    • No mandatory on-call – out-of-hours is covered by an Invercargill cooperative, with paid Prime emergency callouts available for those who want them
    • Full visa and registration support, including certification to employ overseas-trained doctors
    • Vehicle assistance and cover for medical membership and certification costs
    • Protected team breaks at least three times a day, with doctors, nurses and receptionists working closely together

    Location Overview

Winton sits in Central Southland, with the Ōreti River running along the edge of town for fishing and riverside walking, and an 18-hole golf club in town. Fiordland National Park, home to the Milford, Greenstone and Caples Great Walks, is within easy reach, while Queenstown and Wanaka’s ski fields are around 90 minutes and just over two hours away respectively. Invercargill, Southland’s main city, is a 25 to 30 minute drive for cycling, theatre, museums and a large swimming complex. This is a genuinely family-friendly farming and dairy community, with generations of the same families registered as patients.

    Skills and Requirements

    • MRCGP or equivalent qualification
    • Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
    • Commitment to community-based, rural general practice
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
